Peskov wished Europe a "new generation of wise politicians"

On July 7, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov wished European countries a new generation of smarter politicians, comparable in scale to Charles de Gaulle or Helmut Kohl.

"We sincerely wish the Europeans a new generation of wise politicians, a new generation of de Gaulle, a new generation of Chancellor Kohl and so on," Peskov said in an interview with Die Weltwoche magazine.

According to him, modern "kind and sophisticated" Europe remains, but it is under serious pressure from the current authorities. As an example, the Kremlin representative cited the situation with conductor Valery Gergiev.

Peskov told how the musician complained to him that he still had many friends and acquaintances in Europe, with whom he called every day, but none of them could invite him to the opera for fear of being punished.
