Greenland should be under the control of the United States. This was announced on July 7 by the American President Donald Trump.

"Greenland should be under the control of the United States, not Denmark," the head of the White House said during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

According to him, disagreements over Greenland's ownership negatively affect Washington's relations with other NATO countries.

Trump also noted that Denmark does not allocate sufficient funds to fully support the island, whereas it is of great importance to the United States.

The BBC television company, citing sources, reported on May 12 that the United States is regularly negotiating with Denmark to expand its military presence in Greenland, including the construction of new American bases. According to the interlocutors, American officials are seeking to open three new bases in the south of the island.

The Pentagon's deputy head of political Affairs, Elbridge Colby, said on March 4 that Washington was actively working to establish control in Greenland. According to the politician, a process is currently underway that is focused on resolving the issue.
