Olympic champion in cross-country skiing Sergey Ustyugov has completed his professional career. This was announced on July 7 by the head of the Russian Ski Federation Elena Vyalbe.

"We have received an official letter from Sergey about ending his sports career so that he can be excluded from the international doping testing pool," Vyalbe said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Ustyugov is 34 years old. As a member of the Russian national team, he won a gold medal in the relay at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. The skier is also a two-time winner of the World Championships.

Sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev noted on June 22 that without competition from Russian athletes, the professional status of ski racing in Norway is under threat. According to him, the decline in the interest of commercial partners is due to the lack of international competition, since now Norwegian athletes compete mainly with each other.
