- The Ministry of Internal Affairs warned about a fraudulent mailing about a refund for heating
The Russian Interior Ministry has warned citizens about a new fraudulent scheme involving fictitious refunds for heating. This was reported on July 6 by the cyber police unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"The attackers, disguising themselves as management companies, send notifications with a proposal to refund the overpayment for heating," the agency said in a message on the Maks messenger.
The notifications indicate the amount of the expected refund, after which the recipient is asked to click on the link to make a money transfer. According to the Interior Ministry, such links lead to fraudulent websites where users may be asked to enter bank details and other confidential information.
The department stressed that real management companies and government organizations do not issue refunds in this way and do not require entering bank card information on third-party resources.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends checking information about recalculations, compensations and charges only through the State Services of the House, and also not to follow suspicious links from messages.
The press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported on July 5 that fraudsters began to involve citizens in the dropper chain — the transit of stolen funds — under the pretext of helping to withdraw or deposit cash due to bank failures or limits. Scammers call under the guise of bank security officers or law enforcement agencies, scare accounts with hacking, convince them to withdraw all the money, delete the banking application and install a "new" link.
