- The dog handler told about the protection of the dog's paws from the hot asphalt in the heat
Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, told how to protect dogs' paws from the hot asphalt in the heat. In an interview with Radio 1 on Friday, July 3, the expert warned that in hot weather, hot asphalt is dangerous for dogs, just as walking barefoot on a hot surface is dangerous for humans.
According to him, asphalt is not a natural surface for animals and it is he who poses the main danger to them in the summer. To check whether it is safe to walk with a pet, the specialist advised to put the back of your hand to the asphalt. If the surface burns, the dog cannot walk on it. He recalled that asphalt can heat up to 60 degrees in the heat.
The expert recommended that, if possible, choose grass or dirt paths for walking, and also postpone walking in the early morning or evening, when the surface has time to cool down. For additional protection of paws, you can use special wax, and, if necessary, summer shoes for dogs, but your pet should be accustomed to it in advance.
If the dog begins to press his paws or step from one to the other, it is necessary to immediately take him away from the hot surface, transfer him to a cool place and rinse his paws with cool water. Damaged skin should be treated with an antiseptic and a healing agent with panthenol should be applied, and in case of severe burns, consult a veterinarian as soon as possible.
Earlier, on June 30, zoopsychologist Svetlana Kapustina told Izvestia how to recognize aging in dogs. According to her, the aging age of a dog depends on its size.
In June, Vladimir Golubev noted that owners should not rely on the endurance of dogs in the heat: overheating and heat stroke can be dangerous for the animal. He reminded that it is better to postpone walks and active games from 11:00-17:00 in the morning or evening, and that the dog absolutely should not be left in the car in the heat, writes RT.
Also in June, economist Oleg Abelev said that demand for dog strollers in Russia increased by 30% over the year. The expert attributed the growing popularity of such strollers to their convenience for the owners, according to the Moscow city News agency.
At the same time, Mikhail Shelyakov, a veterinarian of the highest category, in a conversation with 360.ru He said that if a dog doesn't eat for two days in the heat, it's a reason to worry. The refusal of food is not always explained solely by the heat. In the warmer months, the risk of poisoning increases dramatically.
