The State Duma proposed giving single parents a priority right to leave

A group of deputies from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, led by the first deputy chairman of the Central Committee of the party, Yuri Afonin, has drafted a bill in the State Duma on the priority right of single parents of children under 14 to take paid leave at any time convenient for them.

"A single mother or father who is raising a child (children, until the eldest of them reaches the age of 14) under the age of 14 or another person (other legal representative of the child) who is the sole breadwinner of the said child (children, until the eldest of them reaches the age of 14) under the age of 14 has the right to the provision of annual paid leave at their request at a convenient time for them," reads the text of the bill, which is available to TASS.

It is noted that it is proposed to amend the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. The authors of the project note that single parents and sole breadwinners face additional difficulties in organizing child care and combining family responsibilities with work. Besides, according to them, the current legislation does not provide special guarantees for these persons.

Afonin explained that if a child grows up in a full family, then at least one parent will be able to go on vacation with him during the summer holidays, but if the parent is alone, then there are fewer such opportunities. He also noted that the current fertility situation is "alarming," so it is necessary to provide assistance to those who raise children, including those who do it alone.

"People who are thinking about having children today should understand that the state is ready to support them in various aspects of their lives," the deputy concluded.

Senator Daria Lantratova, co-chairman of the public council of the United Russia Women's Movement, and State Duma deputy Ekaterina Stenyakina said on June 26 that the party was working on new measures to support single parents, including the creation of round-the-clock groups in kindergartens and the possibility of visiting preschool institutions on weekends. Lantratova stressed that such families need not only financial assistance, as one parent has a double burden of combining work and everyday life.
