- The US court refused to revoke the right to citizenship for children born in the country
The US Supreme Court has rejected an attempt by US President Donald Trump to revoke the right to automatic American citizenship for children born in the country. This was reported on 30 by ABC News channel.
"The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected President Donald Trump's attempt to revoke birthright citizenship in the United States through an executive order," the publication says.
The court, by a majority vote, confirmed the legal precedent, according to which all children born in the United States automatically receive American citizenship.
The Trump administration has insisted that the children of illegal migrants and foreigners temporarily staying in the United States are not subject to the 14th Amendment to the constitution. However, the Supreme Court maintained the current procedure, upholding the decisions of the lower courts that declared the initiative illegal.
The Wall Street Journal reported on March 19 that Trump intends to review the policy of mass deportation of illegal citizens of the country. The initiator of the "reset" of US immigration policy was, according to the publication, the head of the Trump administration, Susie Wiles.
On June 26, the Trump administration filed a petition with the Supreme Court demanding that its new policy of mandatory detention of illegal migrants who have been living in the country for many years be recognized as legitimate. Lower federal courts have issued more than 9.3 thousand decisions against this initiative, classifying it as a gross violation of constitutional rights and the law, the newspaper writes.
