The European Commission has denied a complete ban on Schengen visas for Russians
The European Commission (EC) does not confirm information about the preparation of a complete ban on the issuance of tourist visas to Russian citizens. This was reported on June 30 in the press service of the EC.
"We have repeatedly stated that the European Commission is still working on the preparation of targeted measures to adapt the visa regime," TASS quoted the text of the statement.
The EC noted that they continue to work on changes to the visa regime concerning persons who participated in the fighting in Ukraine. These proposals are included in the draft of the 21st package of sanctions of the European Union (EU). At the same time, the EC refused to specify how former participants in the special military operation (SVO) are supposed to be identified.
Diplomat Konstantin Dolgov noted on June 30 that if the EC nevertheless decides to ban the provision of visas to Russian citizens, the European economy will suffer, as it will lose a significant part of consumers of its tourist services. He clarified that the measures being considered in Europe have no effectiveness, and also exacerbate the already observed split in this area due to anti-Russian sanctions.
