- Matvienko assessed the growing inequality between the regions as a threat to national security.
The growth of inter-regional inequality in Russia is unacceptable and poses a direct threat to national security. This was announced on June 29 by Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and representatives of the Chamber's Council.
"The analysis shows that in recent years, the growth of inter-regional inequality has continued to be recorded in the country.: settlements are being abolished, rural populations are declining, and the depopulation of regions is simply unacceptable, and it is a direct threat to our national security," Matvienko stressed.
She noted the need to move to concrete measures to prevent further development of this trend and suggested updating the existing strategic documents.
On June 25, the Russian Prime Minister announced that the Russian government would send a total of about 7.8 billion rubles to new regions to pay pensions and finance housing and communal services. He recalled that President Vladimir Putin had instructed to pay special attention to the integration of Donbass and Novorossiya into a single legal space of the country.
