Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's desire to resign early indicates that he has made a strategic decision in favor of the state. This opinion was expressed on June 28 by political scientist Alexander Asafov.

Vucic said the day before that he had been in office as head of state for "the last few weeks." He also thanked the residents of the country for their support and stressed that "I would not have been able to do anything without them."

According to the expert, the Serbian authorities have analyzed the results of the elections in Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Moldova. Based on this analysis, it was concluded that in conditions of political turbulence, the country needs to maintain stability without interference from external actors. He clarified that this is reflected in a gradual movement towards the European Union while maintaining beneficial cooperation with other partners, including Russia.

"If he had left in the wake of the protests, it would have shown his weakness and his political opponents, with the external support under which these thousands of protests took place, would have come to power. And here there is a good chance to preserve the existing order of things, but by sacrificing the figure of Vucic, which the Americans have long given up on. Therefore, it seems to me that this is a strategic decision. We'll see what happens next," Asafov said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

On June 10, Vucic announced his plans to resign and then run for the post of prime minister. According to him, the Serbian leader may make the appropriate decision even earlier than in 3-4 months.
