World Gymnastics appreciated Russia's refusal to participate in the Challenge Cup
The International Gymnastics Federation (World Gymnastics) has taken note of the decision of the Russian rhythmic gymnastics team to withdraw from the Challenge Cup in Romania. Representatives of the organization informed Izvestia about this on June 26.
"We have taken note of the situation and are assessing it. If there are any updates, we will inform you about them in due time. We have no additional comments at this stage," World Gymnastics said.
The federation is currently continuing to analyze the current situation surrounding the performance of Russian athletes at the tournament in Romania.
The reason for the refusal of the Russian athletes was the ban by the organizers of the competition on the use of the national tricolor and the performance of the national anthem.
On the same day, the press service of the Russian Gymnastics Federation announced that the national rhythmic gymnastics team refused to participate in the Challenge Cup, which takes place from June 26 to 28 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Linar Ginatullin, the press attache for rhythmic gymnastics of the FGR, clarified that the organizers of the competition verbally notified the Russian side that if the athletes won, they would not display the national flag of Russia and sing the national anthem in the arena.
