The Brazilian national team has sent an official protest to the International Football Federation (FIFA) over the cancelled goal of striker Vinicius Junior in the World Cup group stage match against Scotland. This was announced on June 25 by the TyC Sports portal.
The meeting between Brazil and Scotland ended with a 3-0 victory for the Latin American team. A controversial episode occurred in the 24th minute of the game, when Vinicius put pressure on defender Jack Hendry, took the ball away and hit the opponent's goal. After that, Mexican referee Cesar Ramos received a signal from the video assistants, reviewed the video replay and decided to cancel the goal.
"Brazil's cancelled goal against Scotland doesn't seem to fit the philosophy adopted at the tournament. It is worth noting that the decision seemed unexpected not only for Brazil, but also for the Scottish players, whose immediate reactions indicated that they did not expect the goal to be checked and canceled," the Brazilian Football Confederation said.
In the submitted document, representatives of Brazil referred to the precedent in the match of the national team of Argentina against Austria. In that game, the referees did not record a foul from Alexis McAllister in the episode that preceded Lionel Messi's first goal, and scored a goal.
