Vyacheslav Pozgalev, the former governor of the Vologda Region, has died.

Vyacheslav Pozgalev, the former governor of the Vologda Region, has passed away. His death became known on June 25 from a message on his page on the VKontakte social network.

"Vyacheslav Evgenievich Pozgalev passed away. The date and place of the farewell will be announced later," the publication says.

Vyacheslav Pozgalev led the Vologda Region for 15 years— from 1996 to 2011. After leaving the post of head of the region, he represented the interests of the region in the lower house of parliament.

From 2011 to 2016, the politician was a deputy of the State Duma of the sixth convocation from the United Russia party.
