The UK proposed to consolidate the possibility of confiscation of property after the death of the defendant

The Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation proposed to fix in the Code of Criminal Procedure the possibility of identifying and confiscating criminal property after the death of a person involved or termination of the investigation of the case. This was announced on June 25 by Alexander Fedorov, Adviser to the Chairman of the department, on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPIEF-2026).

"Another initiative is the possibility of continuing the search for criminal assets after the investigation of the main criminal case is completed or after the death of the person involved," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Fedorov explained that sometimes property is often discovered after sending a case to court. In such cases, the current regulation does not allow these assets to be fully converted.

"In this regard, it is proposed to fix in the criminal procedure law a new basis for allocating a criminal case solely for the establishment, search and confiscation of property of criminal origin," he concluded.
