Two members of Basayev's gang convicted of attacking paratroopers in Chechnya

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don found two members of armed formations guilty of attacking the paratroopers of the 6th company in Chechnya in 2000. This was announced on June 24 by the court's press service.

"The verdict in the criminal case against Arslan Kadralievich Taushev and Rasul Orazkeldievich Koshmanbetov, accused of committing crimes, was announced," the VKontakte page says.

The court found that the defendants were members of the Nogai Jamaat armed group (recognized as terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation), which operated in the formation of Shamil Basayev and Emir Khattab. During the attack from February 29 to March 1, 2000, 84 soldiers were killed and four were injured.

The defendants pleaded not guilty. They were sentenced to imprisonment: Taushev — 23 years, Koshmanbetov — 24 years in a high-security penal colony. The verdict has not yet entered into force.

On the night of August 2-3, 1999, the defendants took part in an armed attack on a federal security post in the Republic of Dagestan.
