Japan's decision to raise visa fees for foreigners will not affect Russians. This was announced on June 20 by the press service of the Association of Tour Operators of the Russian Federation (ATOR).

"The main thing that Russians should know about is that Japan's visa innovations have nothing to do with them," the Telegram channel says.

The organization clarified that Japanese visa processing is still free for Russian citizens, there is no consular fee, and the Japanese authorities have not yet announced changes in this part.

ATOR also noted that in May 2025, 24.6 thousand Russian tourists visited Japan, which is 28.4% more than a year earlier.

The Japan Times newspaper reported on the same day that the Japanese authorities had decided to raise visa fees for foreigners for the first time since 1978, and visas would become five times more expensive. According to Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, the authorities took this step due to high inflation and the weakening of the yen.
