Poland should take part in negotiations with Russia on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on June 20 by the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry, Radoslaw Sikorski.

"We are neighbors of both Russia and Ukraine. <...> We are on the front line, and 90% of the weapons supplied to Ukraine pass through Poland. We are responsible for this. Therefore, we demand a place at the negotiating table on this issue," he said in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung newspaper.

Sikorski added that Warsaw can seek a place at the negotiating table through European institutions, the European Council or the "coalition of the willing" if it is represented at the consultations. Nevertheless, he stressed that Poland and the European Union (EU) did the right thing when they provided Ukraine with a loan of €90 billion. "Газета.Ru ".

Yesterday, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed the opinion that the EU does not want to initiate negotiations with Russia on a settlement in Ukraine for fear of being in a losing position. Based on this, none of the European leaders convinces their colleagues to appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a proposal to start a dialogue.

At the same time, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, avoided giving a direct answer to the question about the EU's potential readiness for negotiations with Moscow. However, she acknowledged that such calls do exist.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia remains open to negotiations with European countries, but attempts to engage in dialogue with the state from a position of strength are a serious mistake.
