On June 19, Argentine President Javier Miley condemned the actions of presenter Florencia Pena, who broadcast false information about the death of football player Lionel Messi's father.

"When it seems that we have already seen everything from the side of the media, certain characters remind us that it is always possible to fall even lower, utter even worse abomination and cause even more harm," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

The President called the presenter's statements unscrupulous and stressed that the information had not been verified. According to him, even if the data turned out to be true, their disclosure would be unacceptable, since it concerns the private life of a citizen.

On June 19, footballers Messi, Ramin Rezaian and Derek Cornelius became the leaders of the ratings of the International Football Federation (FIFA) following the results of the first round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. New Zealand midfielder Elie Just, Frenchman Kylian Mbappe, Brazilian Vinicius Junior and a number of other players were also among the best in the first round.
