The Semeru volcano in the Indonesian province of East Java has become active again, with at least four eruptions per day. This was announced on June 10 in the press service of the Center for Volcanology and Mitigation of Geological Disasters of the republic on the website.

It is noted that the ash rose 1.2 km above the top of the volcano, which corresponds to 4,876 m above sea level. Locals and tourists were also warned to stay away from the crater within a 5 km radius due to the risk of red-hot rocks, lava flows, hot clouds and mudflows along the rivers.

Semeru is the fourth highest volcano in Indonesia and the highest point on the island of Java.

In May, it was reported that two foreign tourists and one local citizen died after the outbreak of the Dukono volcano on Halmahera Island in eastern Indonesia. It was specified that the height of the ash was about 10 thousand meters above the crater.
