France has banned Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich from entering as part of a new package of sanctions against individuals Paris considers involved in escalating violence and expanding settlement activity in the West Bank. This was announced on June 9 by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barraud.

"We have banned Minister Bezalel Smotrich, four heads of settler organizations and 21 settlers from entering our territory," X (ex. Twitter).

The new restrictive measures were agreed jointly with the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Norway. Barro also stated that Paris does not support the policies that he says Smotrich promotes, including the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and other initiatives.

On May 24, French Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin called for tough measures to reduce migration, including temporary restrictions on the issuance of residence permits and changes to the country's Constitution. He admitted that, depending on the results of the upcoming presidential elections, Paris may impose a temporary state ban on entry and paperwork for foreigners.
