An arsenal of weapons and ammunition was found in the garage of a resident of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

Police and FSB officers identified a local resident in Dzerzhinsk as illegally storing weapons and ammunition. This was announced on June 8 in the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

"The illegal act was revealed by the staff of the criminal investigation department of the regional police in cooperation with colleagues from the FSB of Russia in the region," the social network VKontakte says.

During the operational measures, law enforcement officers found three items in one of the garages, presumably firearms, as well as cartridges and gunpowder. The seized items have been sent for examination.

A criminal case has been opened by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the city. The police noted that the voluntary surrender of illegally stored weapons and ammunition exempts from criminal liability.

On June 5, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the North Caucasus Federal District reported that two residents of South Ossetia were detained for involvement in the illegal supply of firearms and ammunition to the territory of Russia. The defendants, together with unidentified persons, organized a smuggling channel across the Customs border of the Eurasian Economic Union.
