Real Madrid demands to strip Barcelona of 23 titles because of the Negreira case
Real Madrid has appealed to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) with a demand to strip Barcelona of 23 titles won during the period that appears in the investigation into the case of former vice-president of the technical committee of referees of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Jose Maria Henriques Negreira. This was announced on June 8 by the AS portal.
According to the publication, Real Madrid has prepared and sent a special dossier to UEFA. The club asks not only to apply sanctions to Catalans related to participation in European competitions, but also to exclude titles won from 2001 to 2018 from the official history. During this time, Barcelona became the Spanish champion nine times, won the National Cup six times and the Spanish Super Cup eight times.
In 2001-2018, Barcelona allegedly regularly transferred large sums to the accounts of companies associated with Negreira for "consulting services," which is considered possible corruption and influence on judges. The club, in turn, rejected the allegations of bribery of an official.
Florentino Perez, president of the Spanish FC Real Madrid, was re-elected on June 7 following the results of the elections. Perez is 79 years old, he led Real Madrid from 2000 to 2006 and again from 2009 to the present.
