On June 8, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) published the composition of the groups for the 2027 World Cup.

According to the distribution, the national teams of Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Latvia, Austria, Slovenia and Ukraine entered Group A. In Group B, teams from Canada, the USA, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark, Norway, Kazakhstan and Hungary will compete for the playoffs.

The tournament will be held from May 14 to May 30 in the German cities of Dusseldorf and Mannheim. The Russian national team will miss the upcoming championship. For the national team, this World Cup will be the sixth consecutive tournament in which it will not be allowed.

Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev announced on May 28 that the IIHF had annulled the decision to suspend the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in international tournaments. Later, the organization clarified that the request for admission of Russians would be further analyzed, taking into account security issues, operational activities and the sports organization of tournaments.
