Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on June 8 that the country is not yet ready to become a member of the European Union (EU) and must first reform the state and bring it in line with European standards.

"Armenia is also not ready to be a member of the European Union. And our first goal is to reform the country," he said during a press conference.

Pashinyan also stated the need to continue the process of democratic transformation to such an extent that both inside and outside the country the EU recognizes Yerevan's compliance with its standards.

On the same day, Pashinyan stated that Armenia would continue to move closer to the West, but would not stop participating in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). He also said that shortly before speaking to reporters, he had an informal phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, and also spoke with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

On June 8, the Prime Minister of Armenia announced the "victory" of his Civil Contract party in the elections in Armenia after counting only 10% of the votes. Answering a question from Izvestia why he, and not the Central Election Commission (CEC), reports on his party's victory, the Prime Minister noted that the party has its own observers at polling stations who count their own votes.

The head of the Central Election Commission of Armenia, Vahagn Hovakimyan, said on June 7 that the final turnout in the parliamentary elections in Armenia was 58.97%. Of the 2,503,976 voters, 1,476,597 citizens voted in the elections, or 58.97%.
