- In Kazakhstan, they explained the reason for the traffic jam on the border with the Russian Federation
A traffic jam has formed on the border of Kazakhstan and Russia in the Aktobe region due to a decrease in the rate of acceptance of vehicles by the Russian side. This was reported to the RIA Novosti news agency on June 7 by the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic.
Video footage of a truck queue in western Kazakhstan spread on social media earlier in the day.
"Currently, there is a decrease in the rate of acceptance of trucks by the neighboring side. The infrastructural imbalance between the checkpoints also has a significant impact," the ministry explained.
The Kazakh customs clarified that there are four lanes of traffic at the Zhaysan automobile checkpoint from Kazakhstan, while there are only two lanes at the neighboring Russian Sagarchin checkpoint. In conditions of increased traffic flow, the capacity of the infrastructure does not allow for uniform movement, which causes congestion.
The committee added that such traffic jams at the checkpoint form regularly after the weekend, when traffic is piling up on the highways.
In September last year, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) commented on the data on the accumulation of trucks on the border of the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan. The agency explained that customs officers, based on appeals from entrepreneurs and to combat gray imports, carry out traditional verification measures to stop the import of products dangerous to citizens.
