Degtyarev congratulated Andreeva on her victory at Roland Garros
On June 6, Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Mikhail Degtyarev congratulated tennis player Mirra Andreeva on her victory in the French Open (Roland Garros).
"In just a few years, Mirra has gone from making her debut in the main draw of the tournament to the championship title. The semi—finals in 2024, Olympic silver in Paris, constant progress at the largest competitions in the world — and now the first career victory at a Grand Slam tournament," Degtyarev wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to him, this result only confirms that Russia has one of the strongest tennis schools in the whole world. The minister added that the Russian tennis school can educate world-class athletes.
Andreeva defeated Maja Chwalinska of Poland in the final of the French Open and won a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. The match ended with a score of 6:3, 6:2 in favor of 19-year-old Andreeva, who was seeded at the tournament at number eight. Four-time Olympic swimming champion Alexander Popov, in turn, commented on Andreeva and noted the resilience of her character.
