China has announced an important mission with Russia to transform global governance
China and Russia are carrying out an important mission to transform the global governance system. This was announced on June 5 by Deputy Chairman of the People's Republic of China Han Zheng during the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026).
"As leading world powers and permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and Russia have an important mission in transforming the global governance system," he said.
According to Han Zheng, China, together with Russia and other countries, intends to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the global governance initiative, jointly developing a world in which tolerance, equality and mutually beneficial cooperation prevail. He stressed the need to advocate for the democratization of international relations by increasing representation and raising the voice of developing countries.
The Chinese Deputy Chairman also noted the importance of protecting international justice and upholding the status and authority of the United Nations. In the context of unilateral actions and protectionism, the international community especially needs to defend its core values, he added.
The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed to the long-standing cooperation between Russia and China. The Head of State added that China is actively developing and occupies an increasingly large niche in the global economy and politics, which the Russian side has closely observed, developing joint work. He specified that the parties are paying more and more attention to issues related to artificial intelligence, information technology, biology and genetics.
