Lavrov pointed to the inconsistency of the United States in promoting Anchorage's initiatives.

Russia's position on the proposals put forward at the Anchorage summit remains unchanged, but the United States is inconsistent in this aspect of relations. This was stated on June 4 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with Izvestia at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026).

The Minister drew attention to the statements of the US representatives about their role in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, Washington's position on this issue looks contradictory.

"[US Secretary of State] Marco Rubio spoke in Congress. <...> And there he said that the United States cannot be intermediaries because they support Ukraine. Including the supply of weapons. Well, the circle has closed, it turns out," Lavrov said.

He added that Rubio's statement surprised him. The Russian Foreign Minister stressed that the Russian position on the agreements with Washington remains the same and called on the American side to take a responsible approach.

"Our position, which we have consolidated on the American proposal in Anchorage, remains unchanged. The main thing is that this position should be promoted responsibly by the authors of the initiative themselves," Lavrov concluded.

At the final press conference in Astana, Putin declared Russia's readiness to resume negotiations and assessed the prospects for ending the conflict.

Rubio said on June 3 that the conflict in Ukraine has no military solution — it can only be ended through diplomacy. He added that Washington should maintain the possibility of dialogue with Moscow. However, the US Secretary of State also announced the transfer of military aid to Kiev in the amount of $ 400 million as part of a package that was previously approved by the US Congress, and spoke about the work on a package of anti-Russian sanctions.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on June 4 that Russia was ready to continue negotiations with the United States, which had begun in Anchorage. The diplomat stressed that no one refused from relations between the two countries, neither from Moscow nor from Washington. According to Zakharova, at the moment, despite the conflict in the Middle East, contacts between Russia and the United States are continuing, and rather "limited" work is being carried out at the embassy.
