On June 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will launch the construction of the first power unit of an integrated nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. This was announced on June 2 by Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

"Naturally, a bilateral meeting will be held in connection with President Mirziyoyev's participation in the forum. It will take place on the evening of June 4 at the Konstantinovsky Palace. Moreover, it will begin quite symbolically and quite curiously. With the participation of the two leaders in the form of a conference dedicated to the start of construction of the first power unit of an integrated nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan," Ushakov said.

The Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, the head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, and the head of the Uzatom agency, Azim Akhmedkhadzhayev, will be present at the construction site. After the leaders' speech and welcoming remarks, Grossi Likhachev will report on the technical readiness for pouring concrete on the foundation plate of power unit No. 1 and ask Putin to allow work to begin.

Akhmedkhadzhayev will make a similar report to Mirziyoyev, and the presidents will launch the filling. The plant will include two high-power and two low-power power units of 55 megawatts each.

On April 13, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that Russia and Uzbekistan should multiply their mutual trade turnover by 2030, for which all the necessary bases have been formed at the moment. Then he recalled that the Russian side had already begun construction of an integrated nuclear power plant (NPP) in Uzbekistan according to a domestic project.
