US President Donald Trump is not sure if American Vice President Jay D. Vance is suitable for the role of his successor. This was reported on May 30 by The New York Times (NYT), citing sources.

"In recent conversations with aides and allies, President Trump often inserts a question about his vice president: does J.D. Vance have everything he needs to get to the end? He usually answers his own question: he's not so sure," the article says.

The publication writes that Vance has established himself as a devoted ally of Trump, supporting his actions on the conflict with Iran, and is popular among the president's supporters.

According to the NYT, in order to qualify for the nomination in the 2028 elections, Vance needs to maintain a trusting relationship with Trump and strengthen his position within the Republican Party. In general, the allies believe that at the moment Vance remains the most suitable figure for the succession of the presidential line.

The Daily Mail reported on May 23 that Vance is considering withdrawing from the 2028 presidential election. It was noted that Vance's isolation intensified amid the growing influence of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

CNN reported on May 20 that Vance and Rubio are preparing for the 2028 presidential election, despite the fact that both deny this. As noted, even the head of the White House is "happy to hint" at the possibility of a confrontation between Vance and Rubio for his successor.
