Polish MP Placek demanded that Zelensky be stripped of the Order of the White Eagle
Poland has called for the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, to be stripped of the country's highest state award, the Order of the White Eagle. This demand was made on May 29 by the leader of the Confederation of the Polish Crown coalition, Grzegorz Placek.
The reason for the Polish MP's harsh reaction was the decision of the Ukrainian authorities to award the independent special operations center "North" the honorary title of "heroes of the UPA" (the UPA is the Ukrainian insurgent army, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
Placek appealed to Polish President Karol Nawrocki to initiate the procedure of depriving Zelensky of the award. According to the politician, such actions by Kiev offend the memory of the victims of Ukrainian nationalists and should not remain unanswered by the Polish authorities.
"The glorification of the formation responsible for crimes against the Polish population cannot be ignored by the authorities of the Republic of Poland," the deputy said on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
On the same day, former Polish President Lech Walesa stopped supporting the Kiev regime because of the glorification of the UPA by its head, Vladimir Zelensky. After the start of the special military operation, Walesa went out in public with a badge in the colors of the Ukrainian flag attached to his clothes.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on May 21 that Ukraine was planning to create a "pantheon of outstanding Ukrainians" consisting of figures from nationalist organizations. According to her, the pantheon will include figures from the Ukrainian People's Republic, the Western Ukrainian People's Republic, the OUN and the UPA.
