Murashko noted a decrease in child mortality from cancer in the Russian Federation since 2022

Child mortality from cancer in Russia has decreased by more than 5% over the past four years. This was announced on May 28 by the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko.

"Child mortality from cancer is steadily decreasing, and it has decreased by more than 5% since 2022," the minister said.

Speaking at the jubilee Russian National Congress on Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology "35 years together", the head of the department noted that lymphoma most often prevails among the pathologies identified. According to Murashko, the measures taken by the state have allowed Russia to reach the European average in this area.

The current situation reflects the growth of diagnostic capabilities and the availability of modern therapies. The minister stressed that "literally a matter of days" pass from the moment of diagnosis to the start of inpatient treatment for children.

He added that infant mortality in Russia has decreased by 27% since 2019. According to the minister's presentation, if in 2019 the indicator was 4.9 ppm, then in the period from January to April 2026 it dropped to 3.6. Murashko stressed that in 39 regions of the country the infant mortality rate in 2025 was at or below the average in Russia.

"We have reached the minimum infant mortality gap between urban and rural areas. I would like to emphasize that Russia is among the ten countries with the lowest infant mortality. And we are ahead of Canada, the United States, major countries, and China in this indicator," the minister said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose address was read out by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, said on April 17 that the infant mortality rate in Russia had dropped to an absolute minimum in the history of the state. The Head of State stressed that such impressive results were made possible thanks to the coordinated and professional work of scientists, doctors, nurses and other specialists, their experience, competence and willingness to help.
