Pupils of the first and fourth grades, children from large families, families of participants in a special military operation (SVO), as well as students with disabilities have the right to free hot meals in Russian schools. This was announced on May 26 by Valentina Ivanova, an expert at the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.

"Free hot meals for first- and fourth—grade students are provided in accordance with the instructions of the President of Russia," Ivanova told RIA Novosti.

The director of the Federal Nutrition Monitoring Center for Students clarified that the provision of hot breakfasts and lunches in elementary schools is funded by federal subsidies, to which funds from regional and municipal budgets are added.

"Free meals are also provided to privileged categories of students. These include children from large families, children who require an individual approach to catering, as well as children with disabilities in various nosological groups," the expert noted.

According to Ivanova, special attention is paid to the diets of schoolchildren from families whose fathers or mothers participate in their education. In addition, she stressed that the menu in educational institutions should strictly comply with sanitary rules and regulations on caloric content, serving weight of hot breakfast and lunch in order to provide the children's body with all the necessary nutrients.

On April 22, LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky sent a letter to Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova with a proposal to add baby food to the list of socially important goods and set a maximum trade margin of no more than 10-15% of the manufacturer's selling price for retail chains.
