Degtyarev noted the extensive sports cooperation between Russia and China
Extensive cooperation between Russia and China in the framework of sports competitions is based on a strategic comprehensive partnership. This was announced on May 25 by Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), at the opening of the 10th Russian-Chinese Youth Summer Sports Games in the Kaliningrad Region.
"We are friends with the People's Republic of China, we cooperate — we have sports exchanges, joint competitions, and training camps. And all this is based on a strategic comprehensive partnership," he said.
Degtyarev added that 12 sports are participating in the event, including sambo and wushu, national martial arts popular in both countries. The Minister stressed the symbolic importance of holding the Games in the Kaliningrad region, in the year of the 80th anniversary of the region and the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The head of the ROC noted China's active support for all Russian initiatives in the sports field, including within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS. According to him, friendly matches of women's national football teams are also among the planned events.
Degtyarev took part in the SCO Sports Ministers' summit on May 1. As a result of the discussions, a new format of the SCO Games was approved — they will be held as a year-round tournament with competitions in different countries. Russia will host competitions in 10 sports.
