Since the outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) began in mid-May, 220 people have died. This was announced on May 25 by the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The delay in identifying new cases of the disease is due to the fact that specialists are now forced to "catch up," Ghebreyesus said.

"We are urgently scaling up the mission, but at the moment the epidemic is developing faster than we expect," he was quoted as saying by the Reuters news agency.

He also called on the countries bordering the DRC to take immediate action.

Yesterday, Yulia Minakova, an infectious disease specialist and associate professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology at the Siberian State Medical University, reported that the first symptoms of Ebola are very similar to the flu. According to Minakova, the disease is quite severe and has a high probability of death.

On May 15, WHO declared an Ebola epidemic in the DRC and Uganda. The Reuters news agency reported on May 24 that 900 possible cases of infection have been identified in the DRC at the moment as part of measures to combat Ebola.
