- Litovkin, an expert, called the Oreshnik and Dagger missiles invulnerable to Ukraine's air defenses
The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) lack the technical capabilities to protect military installations from group attacks by Russian hypersonic weapons, including the Oreshnik missile system. This was announced by military expert Viktor Litovkin in an interview with Izvestia on May 25.
"The Ukrainian Armed Forces do not have such capabilities. Ukraine's air defense system is practically non-existent or very weak, if any. And then you have to understand that Russia is striking with hypersonic weapons such as the Dagger, the Zircon, and the Iskander-M. <...> These missiles are not intercepted by any types of air defense systems, neither American, nor French, nor German, or anything," he said.
According to him, Kinzhal hypersonic missiles are capable of reaching speeds of up to Mach 10. At the same time, the Dagger in conjunction with the Mig-31 fighter has a total range of up to 4 thousand km. The specialist also paid attention to the Oreshnik system, capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 5.5 thousand km.
On May 24, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Russian military personnel, in response to Kiev's terrorist attacks against civilian infrastructure, launched a massive retaliatory strike, including the Oreshnik missile system, at Ukrainian military command facilities.
On April 22, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the risk of a critical shortage of ammunition for air defense systems. He admitted that amid the fighting in the Middle East, Kiev has such a shortage of missiles for Patriot air defense systems that "it couldn't be worse."
