Bananas collected in an experimental greenhouse in Sochi were sent for examination

The first banana harvest, harvested in an experimental greenhouse in Sochi, has been sent for examination to determine the composition of useful substances. This was announced on May 22 by the head of the peasant (farmer) farm "100 hectares" Andrey Platonov Jr.

The fruits were cut in a state of technical maturity, which is considered optimal for subsequent transportation. The farmer explained that it is in this form that fruits are usually sent to Russia from abroad, in particular from Ecuador. The samples were delivered to the Novorossiysk laboratory, where specialists will conduct a comprehensive study of the composition of Sochi fruits.

"On Wednesday, we cut bananas in a state of "technical maturity" and sent them to the Novorossiysk laboratory. They will conduct a comprehensive study of the composition of fruits, find out the content of useful substances," he told RIA Novosti.

The quality control will take place in two stages: first at an early stage of ripening, and then after the fruit is fully ripe. To ensure the objectivity of the assessment, the farm also purchased imported bananas from retail stores. The results of laboratory tests will allow comparing the characteristics of Kuban fruits with their foreign counterparts.

Another part of the harvest gathered in Sochi was laid for ripening. For this purpose, a special technology is used, similar to that used for long-distance transportation of exotic fruits.

Starting from May 20, 2026, the Rosselkhoznadzor imposed a temporary ban on the supply of bananas to Russia from one of the exporters from Ecuador. According to the agency, the decision was made in connection with the regular detection of quarantine objects dangerous for the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union in bananas supplied from Ecuador to Russia.
