Greece has demanded an apology from Ukraine after the discovery of an unmanned aerial vehicle off the coast of Lefkada Island. This was announced on May 20 by the country's Defense Minister Nikos Dendias.

"Obviously, it was something extremely dangerous. In addition, the Ukrainian side <... I must apologize very much to us," the Kathimerini newspaper quoted him as saying.

Dendias also said that the Ukrainian side should provide guarantees to prevent such cases in the future. The head of the Greek Defense Ministry noted that such incidents could pose a threat to civilian navigation in the Mediterranean Sea.

"It was completely unacceptable what happened," he stressed.

The Ekathimerini newspaper noted on May 18 that Greece had demanded that Ukraine remove all naval drones from Greek shores. The report clarifies that the found unmanned surface vehicle (UAV) turned out to be a kamikaze drone of the Mamai type.

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, Lana Zohiou, said on May 20 that no one has the authority to attack and sink naval vessels in the Mediterranean Sea, even if they are included in the EU sanctions lists. She clarified that the head of the department, Giorgos Gerapetritis, had already discussed the situation with his Ukrainian counterpart.
