- Zakharova called the inspection of US biological laboratories in Ukraine a step towards solving the problem.
The US review of the activities of its biolabs in Ukraine is the first step towards recognizing the problem and resolving it. This was announced on May 21 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"We consider the current revelation by the American intelligence community as the first step towards full recognition and a comprehensive settlement of the problem, which the Russian side has consistently called for in recent years," Zakharova said at a briefing.
She noted that, according to a statement by Tulsi Gabbard, director of the US National Intelligence Service, inspections have begun for more than 120 foreign biological laboratories, including over 40 biolabs on Ukrainian territory. Russia constantly draws the attention of the international community to the dangerous and uncontrolled military biological activities of the United States outside its national territory, especially in Ukraine.
The Foreign Ministry recalled that during a special military operation, the facts of the implementation of military biological programs of the Pentagon, violating the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxin Weapons, were revealed. The final report of the Parliamentary Commission of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation made a significant contribution to the disclosure of this activity.
Russia has repeatedly initiated discussions on this topic within the framework of the Convention, including the consultative meeting on Article V of the BTWC in 2022 and the Ninth Review Conference, but has received only excuses and accusations of disinformation.
Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador-at-large for crimes of the Kiev regime, said on May 19 that the administration of former US President Joe Biden had actively funded research in biolabs in Ukraine, the results of which could be used to create biological weapons.
