Household appliances that break down most often due to lightning are named

When lightning strikes an apartment building, electrical appliances and appliances are most often affected. This was announced on May 21 by the insurance company "Consent".

According to the insurer, in 93% of cases, a lightning strike damages the interior of the house. Televisions are most often out of order — they account for 52% of such cases. Routers and modems are less likely to break down.

"This is caused by a sudden power surge or a malfunction of the wiring," the company told RIA Novosti.

In addition, a lightning strike can cause a fire. The company cited the example of 2025, when lightning struck the roof of a house, after which the roof caught fire, and then the fire spread to the interior. As a result, bathrooms, furniture, boiler room equipment, as well as finishes, floors and ceilings were damaged. The payment for this case amounted to about 2 million rubles.

According to the company, 96% of fires due to lightning strikes occur in the spring and summer period, when the thunderstorm season begins. The "Consent" also recalled that the cause of a fire in a house may be a short circuit, a faulty stove, problems with the chimney or the spread of fire from neighboring buildings. Insurance can cover such expenses if the policy includes relevant risks, including lightning strike and chimney damage.

Olga Pastushenko, the leading brand manager of the Röndell brand, and Elena Shidlovskaya, a psychologist at the Scandinavian Health Center, explained on May 8 that blunt knives in the kitchen pose a greater danger than sharp ones and become one of the main causes of domestic injuries during cooking. Experts recommend paying special attention to the condition of kitchen tools. Knives must be regularly sharpened using safety devices. Proper storage is equally important: products should not be mixed up in a drawer.
