The Central Bank of Russia (CBR) has sent a petition to the Moscow Arbitration Court requesting immediate enforcement of the decision to recover about 200 billion euros from the Belgian depository Euroclear Bank. This was announced on May 20 by the court's press service.

"The Arbitration Court of the city of Moscow has received a petition to appeal a decision on the claim of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation against Euroclear Bank <...> for immediate execution," the court clarified to the RIA Novosti news agency.

According to the case file, the relevant application of the regulator was registered on May 19. At the moment, the Central Bank's petition has not yet been considered by the court.

Makhlouf Wadia, a professor of political science and international relations at the University of Guelma in Algeria, said on the same day that the countries allied with Russia could comply with the decision of the Moscow Arbitration Court to recover €200 billion from the Belgian depository Euroclear. According to the expert, the effectiveness of the execution of the decision also depends on China's position as a global economic center, since in this case the assets of the Belgian depository may be frozen in China and Southeast Asia as a whole.

On May 18, Euroclear announced its intention to keep the assets of the Central Bank of Russia in Euroclear Bank frozen, despite the decision of the Moscow Arbitration Court.
