A resident of the Chelyabinsk region was sentenced to 22 years for preparing a terrorist attack in Moscow.

The Second Western District Military Court sentenced Eduard Voronov, a 53-year-old native of the Chelyabinsk Region, who was preparing a terrorist attack in Moscow. This was reported on May 13 in the press service of the instance.

"The court considered a criminal case against a native of the Chelyabinsk region, <...> accused of committing crimes under Part 1 of Article 30, paragraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 205 ("Preparation for the commission of a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior agreement"), Article 205.3 ("Undergoing training in order to carry out terrorist activities"), Part 2 of Article 205.4 ("Participation in a terrorist community"), Part 2 of Article 205.5 ("Participation in the activities of an organization recognized as terrorist"), Part 4 of Article 222.1 ("Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, transfer or carrying of explosives or explosive devices") and Article 275 ("High treason") of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation," it says. in the publication of the court on the social network VKontakte.

It is noted that in February 2025, a man who was negatively opposed to conducting a special operation in Ukraine and wanted to help a foreign state act against the security of the Russian Federation filled out a questionnaire via Telegram to join the Freedom of Russia Legion (recognized as a terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation). He contacted a representative of the organization who was outside of Russia and agreed to commit a terrorist attack in Moscow.

In March 2025, Voronov arrived in the capital from Chelyabinsk, took the components of the explosive device from the caches and received instructions. He conducted a reconnaissance of the building where the Center for public Services and the Main Directorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are located. The man could not finish his plan, as he was detained by law enforcement officers.

The court sentenced Voronov to 22 years and 2 months in a special regime penal colony with a fine of 600 thousand rubles and two years' imprisonment.
