The Khimki City Court of the Moscow Region fined 150,000 rubles to a Russian man who tried to smuggle a shipment of diamonds in his jeans pocket. This is stated in the case materials reviewed by Izvestia.

According to the court, the defendant purchased 330 faceted natural and synthetic diamonds with a total value of 4.7 million rubles in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Upon arrival at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, the man proceeded through the "green" corridor, thereby stating that there were no goods subject to mandatory declaration.

The inspector of the department of special customs procedures stopped the man, after which, during a personal search, precious stones were found in his possession. The court qualified the actions of the accused under Part 1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Large-scale smuggling of strategically important resources"). The diamonds were confiscated and turned into state revenue.

On April 29, customs officers found more than 900 ferret skins in a foreigner's luggage at Sheremetyevo Airport. It was clarified that the 52-year-old man planned to export the goods to China.
