"It is impossible to solve defense tasks without equipping troops with modern weapons. At the same time, I want to note that we should not rush into all the types of weapons that we see in modern conflicts, or you read somewhere in a magazine, or someone told you," the Pool One Telegram channel quotes him as saying.
The Belarusian leader explained that the army needs weapons that are well-mastered by the Belarusian military. In addition, when choosing weapons, according to the president, it is necessary to take into account the landscape and the features of the area where hostilities may unfold — that is, the territory of Belarus itself.
"We must have the weapons that we can use, that we know how to handle. We need to acquire and create the weapons that we need," he stressed.
On May 7, Lukashenko said that Belarusians glorify their country with labor victories and are ready to defend it with weapons in their hands. He stressed that Belarus lost every third person in the Great Patriotic War.
Prior to that, on April 19, the Belarusian leader said that the world knows that Russia will use all the necessary arsenal of weapons to protect Belarus. He also stressed that a group has been created in the west of the Russian Federation that will instantly support the Belarusian army. According to the president, the Russian potential is also being added to the republic's defense potential.
