A powerful explosion and a large fire occurred at the Chalmette Refining refinery of PBF Energy, located in Chalmette, Louisiana. This was reported on Friday, May 8, by Fox 8 TV channel, citing officials and witnesses.

"The explosion at the Chalmette Refining plant raised flames and smoke into the sky. <...> The explosion was recorded in the operational unit shortly before 13:00 (local time, 21:00 Moscow time)," the publication says.

Representatives of the company explained that the cotton was heard in the area of one of the work units. Later it became known that the fire had been extinguished. According to preliminary information, there were no reports of casualties as a result of the incident. The reasons for the incident at the facility are currently being clarified.

In the People's Republic of China on May 5, an explosion was reported at a fireworks factory, which killed 21 employees and injured 61 others. Later it became known that the death toll had increased to 26. It was noted that the tragedy occurred in the city of Liuyang, Changsha City District, Hunan Province.
