Putin's meeting with permanent members of the Security Council. The main thing
Russian President Vladimir Putin held an operational meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council. The main topic was the Kiev regime's attack on the Rostov regional Air Traffic Management Center, as well as measures to ensure the safety of air transportation. The Head of State also congratulated the participants of the meeting on the upcoming Victory Day. All the details are in the Izvestia article.
Attack on the air traffic control center in Rostov-on-Don
Opening the meeting, Putin said that the Kiev regime had committed another act of terrorism — it had attacked the Rostov regional Air Traffic Control Center.
"This could certainly have an impact on the safety of civil aircraft. Fortunately, no tragic events occurred as a result of the highly professional work of our dispatchers," the president stressed.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Saveliev reported that the strikes were carried out from 4:15 a.m. to 5:45 a.m. on May 8, there were three in total. Thanks to the security service, the staff was evacuated to the bomb shelter, there were no human casualties.
Consequences of the attack and flight restrictions
As a result of the strike, 13 airfields of the Rostov region were closed: Astrakhan, Volgograd, Vladikavkaz, Gelendzhik, Grozny, Krasnodar, Makhachkala, Magas, Mineralnye Vody, Nalchik, Sochi, Stavropol, Elista. The procedures for air traffic services have been transferred to the airfield control centers.
Almaz-Antey and Rostec engineers will assess the operability of the center's systems over the next 15 hours. Orders have been given to adjust flights, cancel flights and work with passengers. Bus and train services are available as an alternative.
Restoring airport operations
From 13:00 on May 8, air traffic to the 13 listed airfields resumed with a reduced frequency of flights. Vitaly Saveliev said that within two to three days, air traffic in the Rostov region will be fully restored.
"All passengers have been notified, work at the airport is carried out systematically with passengers, there are no comments or questions. Passengers are sympathetic to the current situation," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Congratulations on Victory Day
The President congratulated the participants of the meeting on the upcoming Victory Day. He noted that Russia is constantly monitoring issues related to the preservation of the historical truth about the Second World War.
"We are constantly keeping this issue at a high level of attention, and in dialogue with our colleagues and friends in the People's Republic of China, India, and other countries of the anti—Hitler coalition," Putin said.
He also said that he had recently discussed this topic in a telephone conversation with the US president. "We remembered that we fought against Nazism together and won together," the head of state added.
Some leaders of friendly countries have already arrived in Russia to participate in the Victory Day celebrations.
