In Sweden, the prosecutor decided to cancel the arrest of the Russian captain of the tanker Sea Owl I, who was detained by coast guard officers. This was reported on May 7 by the Swedish radio station P4 Malmohus.

The commander of the vessel was taken into custody the next day after the authorities boarded the tanker. He was suspected of grossly using forged documents.

According to investigators, the captain allegedly presented false certificates for a ship that could sail under a false flag. The sailor himself did not admit guilt during the proceedings and denied involvement in any offenses.

On March 13, the Swedish Coast Guard near the city of Trelleborg took control of the tanker Sea Owl I under the Comorian flag. Daniel Stanling, Deputy head of the Coast Guard's Operations Department, noted that the Coast Guard had grounds to intervene due to the high level of threat to maritime security.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on April 9 that the Russian side would take measures to protect interests in the event of the seizure of domestic tankers in the waters. According to him, cases of piracy in international waters have been recorded in recent months. Peskov noted that these actions were detrimental to Russia's economic interests.
