FT allowed a change in US plans for the deployment of long-range weapons in Germany
The United States may refuse to deploy long-range weapons units in Germany as part of a planned reduction in its military presence in the country. This was reported on May 3 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.
"This reduction jeopardizes the deployment of long-range weapons, including Tomahawk missiles. Washington will reverse the decision," the publication says.
In addition, US President Donald Trump ordered the withdrawal of about 5,000 American troops from Germany. The Pentagon explained that the decision was made based on an analysis of the deployment of US forces in Europe.
The New York Times (NYT) newspaper, citing American military officials, reported on May 2 that the decision to withdraw the US military from Germany was a punishment for Berlin's position on Iran. According to them, Germany's unwillingness to help the United States in conducting military operations against Iran has displeased Washington.
