- The media reported on the intention of the US Armed Forces to inform Trump about new plans against Iran
Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), intends to present updated options for possible military action against Iran to US President Donald Trump. This was reported on April 30 by the Axios portal, citing sources.
According to the portal, the briefing will also be attended by the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Kane. It is noted that among the prepared options, the scenario of "short-term intensive strikes on Iran's infrastructure facilities" is being considered. Washington hopes that such actions may push Tehran to resume negotiations and "greater flexibility" on its nuclear program.
In addition, a plan is being discussed to establish control over part of the Strait of Hormuz to ensure the safety of commercial shipping. In this case, the possible use of ground forces is allowed. Another option is considered to conduct an operation involving special forces aimed at Iran's reserves of highly enriched uranium.
The day before, Bloomberg reported that the US Armed Forces had requested the use of Dark Eagle hypersonic missiles to strike Iran. It was clarified that they are necessary to destroy the launchers of ballistic missiles of the Islamic Republic. Trump also instructed to develop a plan for a long-term blockade of Iran. At the same time, the resumption of bombing or withdrawal from the conflict were called more risky options for Washington.
