Scammers have become more likely to use mobile games as a platform for placing malicious ads that deceive Russians. This was announced on April 28 by the Department for Combating the Illegal use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"Mobile games are regularly used by attackers as a launching pad for attacks. Not only children, but also adult users are at risk," the agency's Telegram channel says.

So, in one case, a resident of Birobidzhan, while playing on her smartphone, came across a pop-up advertisement offering easy earnings as part of an alleged government program. After entering her personal information, she was contacted by a man who introduced himself as a consultant. Later, the woman was shown a fake investment platform and persuaded to deposit money through an ATM. Later, she was persuaded to raise funds from friends and relatives under the pretext of paying a non-existent tax. As a result, she lost more than 4 million rubles.

In addition, loans were issued to one of the victim's acquaintances, and her account on the Gosuslugi portal was hacked. The Interior Ministry clarified that such schemes are not limited to the topic of payments: various pretexts can be used in advertising, including offers of earnings, investments, services, compensation or social support. At the same time, the scheme of actions remains typical, where it is necessary to click on a link, enter personal data, make a follow-up call and engage in financial transactions.

Pavel Werner, deputy head of the Siberian General Directorate of the Central Bank of Russia, also warned on April 23 that scammers were offering to raise the character's level or buy artifacts in online games to involve children in their schemes. Scammers offer to sell the card, cash out the money and get interest from it, assuring that there is no criminal liability for children under 14-15 years of age for this activity.
